Bouncing Back After A Binge

So you’ve had a binge: a few weeks away from your healthy diet/training, you’ve been on holiday, it was your birthday or maybe even Christmas.

We’ve all been there and I can promise you that it isn’t the end of the world, when you work hard your body needs a break and sometimes you just need to rest up and eat some hearty food.

Other times you’ve probably had a bit of a guilty binge on pizza, chips, cakes, sweets and a small village…this can happen when you’ve been depriving yourself, under feeding yourself or in general torturing yourself in the name of those new jeans! Stop it, overall health and wellbeing is not supposed to be torture and you could be doing yourself more harm than good!!

We are human, it’s important to feed your soul, rest your body and do what makes you happy in order to stop yourself from burning out however excessive over indulgence long term is where the problems start to form.

How do you feel now you’ve finished your gorge? Frustrated? Bloated? Sick? Unhappy?

Don’t, you’ll only give yourself a headache.

Beating yourself up about over indulging is not going to make it any better. When this happens to me I listen to my what my body is telling me and take three simple steps to get myself right back on track and kicking some serious butt.

#1 – Drink plenty of water

#2 – Have a plan

Set yourself small weekly goals, get some meal prep done so that you’re less likely to stray to unhealthy choices and make sure that all of the unhealthy food is either hidden or disposed of so that you’re not tempted. Get help if you need it; recruit a friend, get a personal trainer or do some research online. Take your training outside, go cycling, do yoga in the park, run, jump, lunge, squat, handstand, anything! Fitness classes are great for those who enjoy group activities and www.bodybuilding.com has an endless supply of info and plans for those who prefer strength training either at home or in the gym.

#3 – Take action

Get on with it. No seriously, none of this “I’ll start Monday” rubbish, start right now. Get yourself sweating, get hot and uncomfortable; sweating is one of the best ways to get those toxins out of your system, not fancy tea or detox juices….just good old fashioned sweat dripping down your back. Instant endorphins.

Progress only happens when you step outside of your comfort zone and those little weekly wins will give you a great sense of achievement and self worth.

Good Luck!
